Singing folk songs creates a social and therapeutic environment. In a very natural way there are opportunities to discuss themes and ideas in the songs, personal memories and above all it's really good fun!
If you'd like her to visit your group please contact her, she'd be delighted to come to see you with a musical friend.
"Just to say how much we enjoyed the films and folk songs with Amanda Boyd. I do hope this can be developed and that the song words at any future event can be provided so that attendees can join in. Thank you for organizing this, much appreciated."

Amanda completed an outreach project using cine films and Somerset folk songs in Sedgemoor. Made possible due Sedgemoor's Small grants scheme. Films courtesy of Windrose Rural Media Trust.

" I thoroughly enjoyed the session and I felt it was beneficial for the Stroke Survivors as it was not only entertaining but provided stimulus including story telling, music, reminiscence and inviting them to have a sing themselves.  Well done and thank you for keeping the 'arts' alive."
(Lynda Chatfield of Somerset's Stroke Association)

"This has really lifted our spirits Thank you that was beautiful"

" I do like the old songs. People do say, 'how do you remember these old songs?' we always go out singing always singing together just out on the town always singing where ever we were going. You remember the old ones better than the new ones, they just come to me cause I'm so fond of them."

" Through the summer of 2013 Amanda worked at Musgrove Park Hospital delivering creative sessions on one of our care of the elderly wards. Amanda bought immense sensitivity and enthusiasm to her work here. She approached her work with professionalism exhibiting a range of creative skills alongside a real empathy with the patients she worked with. We are hoping to work with Amanda again in the future once we have secured funding for a further programme of sessions on the wards"

" Amanda’s visit provided an opportunity for residents to appreciate a variety of Folk Songs in a socially inclusive environment. Amanda used her vocal skills together with a musical accompaniment to connect with residents living with a diagnosis of dementia. During the session, residents were observed to become engaged in the moment by tapping their feet, nodding their heads to the rhythm of the tune and even joining in verbally with the lyrics. Amanda’s upbeat approach and sensitivity to the changing emotional needs of the residents ensured that all residents were acknowledged within the session, whilst the various melodies succeeded in maintaining the audience’s attention, transcending the need for residents’ to employ higher executive cognitive function and ensuring that each moment was enjoyed to it’s fullest."
